Lotta Nieminen Splash Screens
Inspiration can come from almost anywhere, but one of the best sources is from your own personal design hero. For this report, I was challenged to illustrate Lotta Nieminen’s impressive career as both a designer and illustrator using only typography. One of the most notable things about Nieminen is the dichotomy that exists between her graphic style which is bold, sleek, and bright, and her illustrative style which tends toward detail, organic shapes, and a more playful tone. To represent both styles I chose contrasting typefaces to use throughout my slides. Bilo has a variety of weights and has geometric anatomy with sharp lines while Coquette is embellished, dainty, and light. I use this contrast throughout the report to create interesting compositions and illustrate Nieminen’s achievements. The project contains four slides in total all formatted for display on an iPad. I included a small animation of Nieminen’s name to make the presentation more dynamic since we were allowed only one image.
